EASTON, Pa. -- The Lafayette football program officially opened training camp Thursday morning with a two-hour practice at Fisher Stadium. The team's month-long training session will be significantly different this year for the Leopards under first-year head coach John Garrett. The Maroon and White will practice once daily from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday. The team will have a second "rehearsal" planned for 5-6 p.m. each of those days. Sundays are slated to be off days, reserved for injury treatments and team meetings.
Members of the team, the majority of whom had been training on campus during the summer, officially arrived back on campus Wednesday for introductory meetings, equipment fittings and photos.
-- In terms of personnel updates, Jake Taggart has made the move from defensive end to tight end, the position at which he earned all-state honors in New York in 2016. He will now wear No. 87. Taggart's is one of many number changes during the off season. An updated roster is available here.
-- Beyond the incoming recruiting class, there are plenty of new faces in Fisher Stadium, as 10 of 11 coaches are in their first full seasons with the Leopards' program.
-- For the second straight season, the Leopards will be playing (and practicing) on a new FieldTurf surface. The most recent installation was finished in early July and has been in use for training and sports camps since.
-- The season officially opens a month from now, when Lafayette travels to Monmouth on Sept. 2 for a 3 p.m. kick-off at the Hawks's new facility, Monmouth Stadium.
