EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette men's soccer opened the Patriot League portion of the season in impressive fashion, shutting out intrastate foe Bucknell 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
The Leopards took advantage of their only corner kick in the first half, as Andrew Venezia served the ball into the box and Christian Moyse headed it past Bucknell goalie Ryan Ott in the 42nd minute. For Moyse, it was his second goal of the season for a share of the team lead.
Moyse's tally proved to be enough for the Leopard defense which performed well throughout. The Leopards surrendered eight shots to seven different Bison players on the way to the first shutout of the season. The Leopards endured two cornerkicks in the final minutes (10 for the game), but nullified Bucknell's chances.
Brian Ehrlich saved the only Bucknell (2-3-2, 0-1) shot that was put on goal in the first half.
Lafayette (1-7, 1-0) continues in Patriot League play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. when it travels to Holy Cross.
