EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette football secured the commitments of eight student-athletes in the early signing period.
Six on the offensive side of the ball and two on defense signed National Letters of Intent to join the Lafayette football class of 2023.
"It's a great day for Lafayette football as we add some talented student-athletes to our 2019 recruiting class," said
John Garrett, the Fred M. Kirby '42 Head Football Coach. "As we build our football team into one that consistently competes for Patriot League championships, I'm excited about the talented young men we will add to our class today, the coming days and on signing day in February."
On offense, Lafayette added two quarterbacks, two offensive linemen and a wide receiver. Defensively, the Leopards brought in a pair of linebackers as part of the seventh scholarship class in the Patriot League era.
The early signees from the Class of 2023 come to College Hill from five states, including three future Leopards from New York, two from Ohio and one each from New Jersey and Texas.
In the 2018 season, the freshman class made an immediate impact with 15 players seeing action in four or more games. That included eight players who started at least one contest highlighted by Patriot League Rookie of the Year
Malik Hamm.
The team's spring season gets underway on March 25 with the Maroon-White Spring Game slated for April 20 at 1 p.m. Lafayette opens the 2019 schedule on Aug. 31 at William & Mary and plays its home opener vs. Sacred Heart two weeks later. The regular season concludes Nov. 23 when Lafayette travels to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the 155
th meeting of college football's most-played and longest continuous rivalry.
