EASTON, Pa. -- Lafayette completed its recruiting Class of 2022 with the addition of nine student-athletes on National Signing Day. Second-year head coach John Garrett will welcome 24 newcomers in total for the 2018 season, with the most recent additions joining the crop of 15 signees added during the inaugural early signing period in late December.
On offense, the coaching staff added a quarterback, two wide receivers, six offensive linemen and two tight ends over the two signing periods. On defense, the Leopards brought in six defensive backs, four linemen and two linebackers as part of the sixth scholarship class in the Patriot League era. Lafayette also added one special teamer.
The signees from the Class of 2022 come to College Hill from 10 states, including five from Pennsylvania, four from Virginia, three from New Jersey and Georgia, two from Maryland, Ohio and Texas, and one each from Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
"We are very excited to complete the 2018 recruiting class. With today's commitments and the 15 early signees from December, we are adding 24 student-athletes who are exceptional academically and athletically," said Garrett, the Fred M. Kirby '42 Head Football Coach. "The majority of the members of the Class of 2022 come to College Hill from our recruiting footprint and are representative of the type of student-athlete that we will continue to bring to our program. This class has playmakers on both sides of the ball who have the potential to make an immediate impact on the field in 2018."
Lafayette opens the 2018 schedule on Sept. 1 at Sacred Heart and plays its home opener vs. Monmouth two weeks later. The regular season concludes Nov. 17 when Fisher Stadium plays host to the 154th meeting of college's football's most-played and longest continuous rivalry.
