BOSTON, Mass.-- Boston U.'s pitching staff, primarily Kali DuBois, held Lafayette to eight hits while claiming Saturday's Patriot League softball doubleheader, 7-2 and 9-0.
In game one, Boston U. (29-17, 9-2) got to Leopard starter Alexis Randall for three runs in the first inning. Jilee Schanda doubled home the first two and Morrow plated a third run with her own double.
The Leopards followed suit in the second. With Maddie Wensel aboard via a lead-off single, Randall lifted a two-run home run over the fence to slice the deficit to 3-2. It was Randall's first collegiate home run.
The hosts plated three more runs on three hits in the four inning. Kaitlin Sahlinger and Brittany Younan each knocked in runs as the Terriers extended their lead to 6-2.
Lafayette managed three hits the rest of the way, a two-out Wensel double in the top of the sixth and singles by Malori Pojar and Rebecca Dvorak in the seventh in the 7-2 final.
Randall (5-14) took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits with four walks. Stacy Gordon threw the final two innings for the Leopards, giving up one run on one hit with a strikeout. Ali DuBois notched her 20th circle victory of the season, allowing a pair of runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Game two belonged solely to the hosts who used a six-run third inning to push on to a 9-0 final in five innings.
In the first, Samantha Sweigart led off with a single, swiped second, but was stranded as DuBois struck out three batters to end the early threat.
Boston U. led 3-0 entering the third inning when it scored six runs on five hits. Emma Wong had the big hit of the inning, a two-out double that scored two Terrier baserunners for a 9-0 lead.
Lafayette had a final chance to extend the game in the top of the fifth inning. Boston U. pulled starter DuBois in favor of Kali Magane. Pojar promptly singled and then Magane hit Randall. Boston U. asked DuBois to re-enter the circle and she finished off the game, striking out Morgan Biddle and Kaitlyn Rarick before getting Sweigart to foul out to end the game.
Gordon (0-13), who started game two, was charged with eight runs on seven hits with four walks in the loss. DuBois (21-6) allowed one hit over five innings while striking out 11 for the victory.
Lafayette (7-34, 3-11) will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
