EASTON, Pa. -- Seventeen members of the Lafayette football program volunteered at the iCan Shine bike camp held at Easton Area High School from July 16-20.
Seniors C.J. Amill, Jerry Powe and Michael Root, juniors Antonio Brewer and Mike Dunn, sophomore classmates Ryan Dickens, Major Jordan and Selwyn Simpson and freshmen Scott Fernandes, Matthew Fiume, Joe Grundhoffer Christian Hollar, Ty Hranicka, Mike Hughes, Casey McCollum, Joshua Roberts and Ben Wild all participated in the five-day program which taught individuals with disabilities how to confidently and independently ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle.
The five 75-minute workshops each day consisted of student-athletes guiding riders step-by-step on how to safely and successfully maneuver a bicycle while motivating them to become life-long independent riders.
This initiative reinforces the Leopards' unwavering commitment to serving the community. Earlier this year, members of the football team put on a clinic featuring technical drills and 7-on-7 scrimmages for the Boys and Girls Club of Easton. Every March, student-athletes head to local elementary schools to read books to children and encourage them to read on National Reading Across America Day.
