Leopards Host BU in Game One of Team Takeover Doubleheader

Lafayette puts its three-game win streak on the line against the Terriers

Opening Tip
- The Leopards are looking to keep the streak alive against Boston U., defeating the Terriers in all three meetings a season ago, including in the opening round of the Patriot League tournament.

- Last time out, Lafayette took a lead into the fourth quarter against the defending Patriot League champions, but ultimately fell to American.

- Sophomore Drew Freeland hit a pair of 3-pointers to tie classmate Olivia Martino and April Shippee '96 for 15th on the all-time Lafayette 3-point field goals list with 55.

- The game is Team Takeover Night as players will be going by nicknames, music will be selected by the players, and their Bitmojis will be featured throughout as the men follow against Lehigh.

- Lafayette travels to Holy Cross on Saturday before heading to Bucknell on Jan. 9, beginning its second lap around the Patriot League.

Scouting Boston U
The Terriers snapped a three-game losing skid last time out against Navy, handling the Mids, 49-35.

Sitting in the top half of the Patriot League standings, Boston U. is playing its second road game in as many contests.

Nia Irving leads the way, scoring 13.0 ppg while pulling in 8.3 rpg. Payton Hauch is also in double-figures with 12.0 points a contest while Katie Nelson adds 10.4.

Nelson also ranks fourth in the Patriot League with 3.6 apg.

In her first season, the Terriers are led by head coach Marisa Moseley.

All-Time Series
The matchup dates back to the 1985-86 season with American holding a 12-7 advantage overall.

Last season, Lafayette swept the Terriers in all three games, including the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament.

Last Meeting
Lafayette defeated Boston U. in the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament, 66-61, at Kirby Sports Center.

The Leopards were red hot from 3-point range, connecting on 52 percent from distance led by Sarah Agnello's 6-of-8 day from beyond the arc. Olivia Martino also added 17 points.

The Terriers featured four in double-figures. Irving is the top returner from the game, scoring 12 points with seven boards.

A Long Distance Battle
Sophomore Drew Freeland connected on a pair of 3-pointers at American to catch up with classmate Olivia Martino and April Shippee '99 on the all-time Lafayette 3-point field goals list with 55. Next on the list is Ashley Lutz '17 who hit 56 3-pointers in her career.

Efficiency Too
Along with climbing the 3-point field goals chart, Freeland and Martino would rank No. 1 and 2, respectively, on the all-time 3-point field goal percentage list. Freeland is shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc in her career and Martino is a 36 percent career shooter from deep.

The current No. 1 is Anna Ptasinski '18 who shot 39 percent a season ago. In her career, she shot 36 percent and hit 159, ranking third in program history.

Block Party
Sophomore Natalie Kucowski leads the Patriot League in total blocked shots (37) and blocked shots per game (1.9) by nearly 10 and 1.0 respectively.

She has recorded at least one block in all but one game this season and has put together 10 multi-block contests.

50 Rebound Games
Lafayette has pulled in 50-plus rebounds four times this season after doing so zero times in 2017-18. The last time a Lafayette team has had multi 50-plus rebounding games was in the 2013-14 season when it occurred seven times. Before this season, the last time the Leopards had a 50-plus rebound game was the opener of the 2016-17 season at La Salle.

Stability from Kucowski
The Philadelphia native has scored in double-figures in eight of the last nine games and has done so in 15-of-18 games this season. She is getting her buckets in efficient fashion, shooting 41 percent from the field, ranking fourth in the Patriot League.

Getting Over the Hump
The Leopards hold a 5-1 record when scoring at least 60 points this season compared to their 2-10 mark when scoring under 60 points. Lafayette is also 2-0 when scoring over 70 points, doing so once in regulation and once in overtime this season.

Classroom Success
The 2017-18 Leopards ranked No. 14 among Division I women's basketball programs for team GPA. Lafayette compiled a team GPA of 3.538 last season and were 1-of-2 Patriot League institutions to rank inside the top-25.

Clutch Cantwell
Last time out at Kirby, senior Alex Cantwell connected on a career-high three 3-pointers and led the Leopards with 15 points to help snap a four-game losing skid.

Double-Doubles Rising
Kucowski has already matched last season's double-double total with nine so far in 2018-19. She opened the season with four straight double-doubles and has four in the last eight games.

Protecting the Rock
The Leopards set their season low in turnovers in back-to-back outings last week. At Army, Lafayette turned it over just 13 times before setting a new mark with 11 giveaways at Loyola. Prior to that mark, the season low was 15, which the Leopards did four times this season.
