Field Hockey Set for Possible Postseason Preview

Leopards host Bucknell at Rappolt on Saturday at 12 p.m.

* Lafayette has its playoff destiny in its own hands as it heads into the final week of regular-season play. A win on Saturday would lock in the Leopards as one of the top two seeds in the Patriot League Tournament, likely setting up a showdown for the regular-season championship in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 2, barring an American win over Colgate. A loss on Saturday doesn't knock Lafayette out of the chance for a regular-season title, though, as a win against American would set up a three-way tie with Lafayette, American and Bucknell, pending a Bucknell win over Holy Cross in its final game. Lafayette would win that tiebreaker and the regular-season championship due to its 2-1 overtime win over Richmond on Sept. 15, a team both American and Bucknell lost to earlier this season.

* The Leopards are looking to rebound from their first loss since Sept. 23, a 3-2 overtime defeat to defending CAA champion William & Mary on Sunday. After starting the season 1-4, Lafayette has won eight of its last 10 games to put itself in great position for postseason action.

* This past Monday, senior captain Lisa van der Geest tied a Patriot League record with her fourth straight Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award. Van der Geest, the Preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, has led the backline to six shutouts this season, the most since 2012, and has added 17 points, offensively, with five goals and seven assists.
