Field Hockey Battles for PL Regular Season Title in D.C.

Leopards seek first unbeaten league season since 2012

* Lafayette and American, the two remaining unbeaten teams in Patriot League play, meet on Saturday morning in Washington, D.C. to decide the regular-season Patriot League title and the right to host the Patriot League Tournament. Each team sits at 5-0 in conference action with the Leopards coming in at 11-6 to counter a 10-5 overall mark for the Eagles.

* A win for the Leopards on Saturday would mark the first unbeaten conference season since the 2012 campaign. That year, Lafayette went on to win the Patriot League Tournament as well, finishing with an overall mark of 17-3. The win would also give the Leopards hosting rights for the Patriot League Tournament, playing on a field where they've lost just twice in 2019, carrying a 7-2 record at Rappolt Field compared to a 3-3 mark on the road and going 1-1 in neutral-site games.

* Senior captain Lisa van der Geest has been exceptional for Lafayette this season, selected as the Patriot League and NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. The defender led a defensive unit that allowed just one goal in wins over Bucknell and Penn this past weekend, with the Penn shutout being the seventh of the season for the team, the most since recording nine clean sheets in 2009. Additionally, van der Geest contributed on the offensive side, scoring a goal in each contest, including the game-winner with just over a minute to play in Philadelphia.

* The Patriot League Tournament is set to begin on Friday, Nov. 8 with the semifinal matchups culminating in the championship game, set for Sunday, Nov. 10.
