EASTON, Pa. -- The Leopard softball team closed out its eight-game home stand with a 4-0 loss to Boston U. on Sunday afternoon.
Stacy Gordon turned in a solid performance in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits over seven innings. Her Boston U. counterpart, Ali DuBois, limited Lafayette to three hits and struck out four in the win.
Lafayette had its best offensive opportunity in the bottom of the sixth, putting two runners on via
Ellen McDonnell and
Natasha Miner singles. DuBois enticed
Paige Grover and
Brooke Wensel to fly out to the outfield to end the threat.
The Terriers (28-17, 11-1) manufactured a run in the second inning to start the scoring. Alexa Ponce was hit by a pitch and moved to second via a sac bunt. Analisa Ruff came through with an RBI-single for the 1-0 advantage. BU added another run to start the third inning when Aliyah Huerta-Leipner led off with a home run for the 2-0 lead.
Lafayette registered its first hit off DuBois in the fourth inning, when
Paige Grover ripped a ball back through the box. DuBois retired the next two batters to end the inning.
In the fifth, BU added an insurance on a sac fly, and then in the seventh Huerta-Leipner homered again to push the final to 4-0.
Lafayette (7-31-1, 1-11) is back at it on Wednesday at Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader that begins at 3 p.m.
