HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate claimed a 4-1 victory over Lafayette softball on Monday to close out the Leopards' penultimate Patriot League series.
Colgate scored all of the offense it needed in the first inning on Nicole Rounsavill's two-run home run.
In the top of the third inning, Lafayette cut the deficit to 2-1.
Brooke Wensel led off with a double and later scored on a throwing error.
The Raiders added two insurance runs in the bottom half on solo homers by Rounsavill and Virginia Irby to lead 4-1.
Colgate reliever Kaitlyn Borruso limited Lafayette to one hit (a Wensel single in the fifth) over the last four innings. Borruso did not allow a run over 4.2 innings and struck out four in the process. Leopard starter
Stacy Gordon gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings in the loss.
Lafayette (8-35-1, 1-14) will have Tuesday off from game action before hosting Marist in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
