Bucknell Quiets Leopard Bats to Take Doubleheader

Leopards will finish off series on Sunday at noon

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell pitching staff held the Lafayette offense in check, collecting 8-0 and 9-1 wins on Saturday in Patriot League.

In game one, Bucknell starter Raeanne Geffert limited Lafayette to three hits over five innings in an 8-0 final.

The Leopards put their lead-off batters on in the second, fourth and fifth innings on singles by Maddie Wensel, Natasha Miner and Addison Goldwait, but could not get on the scoreboard.

Bucknell (18-15, 8-0) scored three runs in each of the second and third innings to take control of the game and push Leopard starter Kinzi Van Wyk from the circle. Van Wyk allowed five earned runs on five hits in two innings. Hannah Cook finished off the game, giving up one earned run on three hits with a strikeout.

In game two, Bucknell again took an early lead, running up seven runs through the first two innings. The Bison had nine hits over those first two frames and sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning and were aided by a pair of Leopard errors.

Marisa Alemany (3-for-3) doubled home two runs in the second inning and combined with lead-off Allyse Volpe to go 7-for-7 in game two.

Lauren Lichtenwalner surrendered one Leopard hit on the afternoon, striking out four. That hit came off the bat of Miner, an infield single to lead off the top of the fourth. The Leopards benefited from an error and had runners on second and third with one out before Brooke Wensel bunted home Miner for Lafayette's only run of the game.

Coming off an 11-strikeout performance vs. La Salle on Wednesday, Stacy Gordon took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts.

The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon.
