EASTON, Pa. – Fourteen Lafayette football players have been recognized by
Phil Steele which announced its All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday.
Freshman QB
Keegan Shoemaker and senior OT
Jake Marotti were tabbed as the Freshman of the Year and Offensive Lineman of the Year, respectively by the media organization.
The selections mostly mirror the
All-Patriot League teams which were picked by the conference coaches in late November on which Lafayette also had 13 honorees that included
Malik Hamm as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Shoemaker as the Rookie of the Year.
On the Phil Steele All-Patriot League Team, Lafayette had four first-team selections (senior WR
Nick Pearson, OL Marotti, DL Hamm and senior CB
Yasir Thomas) and one second team honoree (soph. TE
Zadok Scott). On the Phil Steele Third Team, Lafayette had eight selections: junior RB
Selwyn Simpson, junior OL
John Burk and
Gavin Barclay and freshman OL
Nathan Slater on the offense, senior LB
Keith Earle and junior LB
Major Jordan on defense and junior K
Jeffrey Kordenbrock and soph. KR
J.J. Younger on special teams.
The team's spring season, consisting of 15 practice sessions, gets underway on March 22 and will conclude with the Maroon-White Spring Game on April 25 at 11 a.m. Lafayette opens the 2020 fall campaign on Sept. 5 at Sacred Heart and wraps the regular season on Nov. 21 when Lafayette hosts Lehigh in the 156th meeting of college football's most-played and longest continuous rivalry.
