EASTON, Pa. –  Lafayette football has inked the commitments of 15 student-athletes in the early signing period.
Eight of the signees are tabbed for offense with seven slotted for the defensive side of the ball. The group signed National Letters of Intent to join the Lafayette football class of 2025.
"It's an exciting day for Lafayette Football as we add 15 talented student-athletes to our 2021 recruiting class on Early Signing Day," saidÂ
John Garrett, the Fred M. Kirby '42 Head Football Coach. "We have a great group coming to College Hill from all different regions of the country, including 10 states.
"As we build on the momentum from our second-place finish in the Patriot League last year, the addition of these talented freshmen enables us to continue to build a team that consistently competes for Patriot League championships. I'm excited about the talented young men we will add to our class today, the coming days and on signing day in February. GO LEOPARDS! BEAT Lehigh!"
Â
On defense, Garrett added three players in the secondary and two apiece on the line and at linebacker. Offensively, Garrett and his staff stacked the roster with five linemen, a quarterback, a tight end and a wide receiver as part of the ninth scholarship class in the Patriot League era.
The early signees from the Class of 2025 come to College Hill from 10 states: four from New Jersey, two each from Kentucky and Ohio, and one apiece from Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Texas. Eleven members were multiple sport athletes at the varsity level.
Lafayette's recruiting classes have had immediate impacts on the program, as Lafayette has claimed the last two Patriot League Rookie of the Year awards, including DL
Malik Hamm who won in 2018 and followed that by garnering Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019. In 2019, 18 freshmen played in five or more games and nine of them started at least one game. In 2018, 15 freshmen played in four or more games, including eight who had a start.
