Indoor Track PL Championship Preview

EASTON, Pa. - With the indoor track and field Patriot League Championships set to kick off over the weekend, we caught up with head coach Michele Curcio to get her outlook on the big meet.

"Our women's team is pretty young so this is going to be a great learning experience for them," said Curcio. Our senior women (Crosby Spiess, Kate Mozzochi, Zoe Peerman and Tracy Kurdziel) have been providing great leadership for the team."

The women bring back two scorers from last year's indoor championships and Curcio believes they both have another great chance at scoring this year.

Starting off the action is Jill Warabak, who returns ranked number eight overall in the 60 meter hurdles. Right behind her is Katherine Ullmann, who is ranked ninth in the 60 meter hurdles. Warabak returns having finished sixth overall last year in the event.

Autumn Sands returns as the other scorer from last season, having finished sixth in the 3,000 meter run. Curcio believes she will once again have another chance to score this weekend.

Olivia Barney is another athlete Curcio believes could get involved in scoring. She is ranked 11th in the shot put, and has been the leader in the throwing department all season for the Leopards.

Moving to the men, the make up of the team is a little different, as many upperclassmen bring experience to this meet.

"We have an experienced upperclassmen group leading the way as Tyler Hubeny, Samuel Fishbein, Brian Kaufmann and Calvin Schneck have all scored in the past," says Curcio.  We are looking to them as potential scorers."

Tyler Hubeny has been a force all season for the Leopards. Going into the weekend events, he is ranked second overall in the heptathlon and looks like he'll be one of the main cogs in all the events. Having finished fifth last season, Hubeny will look to improve that mark.

Brian Kaufmann has been leading the jumping department for Lafayette, and Curcio is looking for him to be a main factor this weekend. He is ranked sixth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump respectively. He finished seventh in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump last season and looks to improve on those numbers.

The throwing departments have once again been lead by Samuel Fishbein, and he looks to have another big weekend. He is ranked seventh in the weight throw and 10th in the shot put. Coming off a third place weight throw finish last season, Fishebin is a name to look out for all weekend.

Finally, Calvin Schneck brings a ton of experience and versatility for the Leopards. Curcio belives he has the ability to score in the 800 meter run, the mile, and in some of the relay events. Having finished eighth in the 1,000 meter run last season, Schneck knows what it is like to run and succeed in big meets.

Overall Curcio says both teams are "peaked and ready to go" this weekend.
