EASTON, Pa. – Junior linebacker
Marco Olivas and freshman kicker
Micah Pettit have earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively, following the Leopards' 27-0 win over Bucknell on Oct. 9.
Â
Olivas, an Integrative Engineering major from Fort Worth, Texas, made 16 tackles, one shy of Preseason All-Patriot League selection's career high. Olivas helped limit Bucknell to 89 rushing yards and 80 passing yards.
Â
Olivas, who also added a sack against the Bison, leads the team with 62 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss. It is the first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor of his career and adds to a Rookie of the Week selection Sept. 30, 2019.
Â
Pettit continues to be a significant contributor on special teams and has shown a strong leg in his rookie season. The History major from Bountiful, Utah, made a pair of field goals against Bucknell. His 49-yard conversion was the longest of his career, tied him for the fourth-longest field goal in school history and is the deepest kick since 2010. He also added a 45-yard field goal in the game.
Â
Pettit is 4-for-4 on kicks of 40 to 49 yards and 6-of-8 overall on the season to go along with 14-of-14 makes on PAT.
Â
Lafayette takes to the road for its next three games. The Leopards wrap up non-league play at No. 19 Harvard on Saturday at 1 p.m.
