Berger in Contention after 1st Day of ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational

Senior shoots 1-under to finish in tie for 8th place

HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Senior Cole Berger fired a 1-under-par 71 to highlight the Lafayette men's golf team's performance in the first round of the 18th annual ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational on Sunday at The Steel Club (formerly Silver Creek Country Club).

Berger is currently in a tie for eighth place and five shots off the lead going into Monday's final round after shooting a 2-under 34 on the back nine following a 1-over-par 37 performance on the front nine.

Berger and the Leopards will tee it up via a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Berger's score helped Lafayette's Maroon team finish in a tie for sixth after the opening round with a 12-over-par 300. Following Berger were juniors Ryan Tall and Kazuki Osawa, who both shot a 4-over 76 to end in a tie for 27th.

Senior Brendan Cronin and sophomore Martin Vanhaelst rounded out the Maroon team's lineup by shooting a pair of 77s to wind up in a tie for 38th.

The Leopards also saw Alec Cwienkala, Creighton Hendrix, T.J. Repczynski, Augie Beers, and Drew Steiner also compete in the tournament for the White team, which is currently in 13th place.

Cwienkala led the team with a 7-over 79 (T-58th), while Hendrix followed with an 9-over 80 (T-63rd). Repczynski had an 11-over 83 (T-68th), Beers had a 12-over 84 (72nd), and Steiner had a 17-over 89 (76th).
