Field Hockey to Face Bucknell on the Road

Leopards eye much-needed win over Bison to stay in PL Tournament chase

* Lafayette is looking for its second victory Sunday when it travels to face Bucknell for a 1 p.m. clash in Lewisburg, Pa. The Leopards are coming off a 2-1 double-overtime loss to defending Patriot League champion American in a rematch of last year's conference title game at Rappolt Field. Senior midfielder Audrey Sawers supplied the Leopards' lone goal in the fourth period to force overtime.

* The Leopards need a win over the Bison to stay in contention for a spot in the four-team Patriot League Tournament. The Maroon and White currently sit in sixth in the conference with five points and trail Lehigh, Colgate, and Bucknell, which are all tied for third in the standings, by one point. Boston U. is in first place with nine points and American is in second with seven points. The Leopards are trying to make the Patriot League Tournament for the third consecutive season.

* The Leopards have had recent success over the Bison, winning nine of the last 13 games against them, including two games last season. The Leopards posted a 2-1 victory on Oct. 26, 2019 and a 1-0 win on Nov. 8, 2019 in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Junior forward Molly McAndrew scored one of the Leopards' two goals in the first win, while Sawers put in the lone goal in the semifinal to lift the team to its first conference title game appearance since 2012.

* When it comes to facing Bucknell, the Leopards have usually found a way to put in multiple goals against the Bison, averaging 2.3 goals per game in 26 contests since 2000. The Leopards have had seven games with two goals or more against Bucknell since 2010.

* Sawers is having a strong senior season for the Leopards, as she is currently second in the Patriot League in points with two goals and one assist. Along with her goal against American last Sunday, the North Vancouver, British Columbia native had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 overtime win over Holy Cross.
