Men’s Golf Places 3rd at Patriot League Championship

Berger, Cronin, Osawa, Tall finish in top 10, earn PL honors

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Seniors Cole Berger and Brendan Cronin, along with juniors Kazuki Osawa and Ryan Tall, placed in the top 10 to highlight the Lafayette men's golf team's third-place finish in the Patriot League Championship on Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club's par-70 course.

Berger, Cronin, and Osawa tied for third in the three-day tournament after they all shot an 11-over-par 221. For their efforts, they each earned All-Patriot League First-Team honors.

As for Tall, he finished in a tie for ninth with a 13-over 223. Tall was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for his performance.

These four helped the Leopards post a total score of 45-over 885 to finish behind champion Loyola (26-over 866) and runner-up Navy (44-over 884). The Leopards placed in the top three in the conference tournament for the fifth time since 2010.

"I'm really proud of the way we played this weekend especially under such difficult conditions," Lafayette head coach Jim Hutnik said. "To have three players finish tied for third overall individually tells you a lot about the quality of players we have in the program."

Berger shot the lowest score of any Patriot League golfer in Sunday's final round, posting a 1-under 69 to go with scores of 77 and 75, respectively. The Malvern, Pa. native moved 12 spots up the leaderboard on the final day to earn the top-three finish.

Cronin earned his top-three finish in the tournament by shooting an 8-over 78 in the final round after being 3-over through the first two rounds (72-71). Osawa ended in the top three after posting a 7-over 77 to go with his scores of 71 and 73, respectively.

Tall came away with his ninth-place finish after also shooting a 77 in the final round to add to his scores of 72 and 74, respectively.

Sophomore Martin Vanhaelst and junior Drew Steiner also competed for the Leopards. Vanhaelst tied for 27th with a 25-over 235 (78-80-77), while Steiner ended in 45th with a 43-over 253 (90-79-84).
