Sands Breaks 31 Year Old 3,000 Meter Record at Villanova Open

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team continued their season at the Villanova Open Invite. While the majority of the team competed at the Moravian Winter Invite, the Leopards sent a few runners to the Villanova Open.

On the women's side, Autumn Sands broke a 31 year old record in the 3,000 meter run previously held by Mary Beth Townsend. Her finishing time of 9:50.07 placed her fifth in the event.

On the men's side, Austin Barry and Bobby Oehrlein ran the second and third fastest times in school history in the 3,000 meter run. Barry's finish of 8:21.92 was good for sixth place overall, while Oehrlein's finish of 8:22.03 was good for seventh overall in the race.

The Leopards return to action on January 29th against Lehigh in a dual meet at 2:00 PM EST.
