#12 Army Starts Fast to Top Men’s Lacrosse Friday

Leopards hold Army scoreless in final frame as Kraham nets three

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team got off to a slow start Friday night inside Fisher Stadium and fell 18-12 to No. 12 Army in Patriot League play.

After falling behind 6-1 through the first 15 minutes, the Leopards answered by outscoring the Black Knights, 6-5, in the second period, including the final three tallies of the half.

Sophomore John Mathes got Lafayette on the board at the 11:56 mark of the first quarter to tie the game before the visitors rattled off five unanswered to close the period.

Sophomore Kalman Kraham netted his first of three goals with 12:07 to play in the second quarter before Army answered with three-straight. The late-period flurry came when junior Ryan Duncan found the back of the net before freshman Riley Sullivan and sophomore Carter Cecil scored just 40 seconds apart.

Army opened the second half, scoring the first four before Kraham got on the board again. Sophomore Peter Lehman netted his first of two, an unassisted goal at 1:57 of the third quarter. Lehman finished with two goals and two assists.

Lehman found the net again in the fourth off a junior Sean Rushton assist after junior Macklin Fitzpatrick scored the first of the fourth quarter. Mathes scored his second of the night in what would be the final goal of the contest.

Sophomore Ben Howard made his first career save, playing nearly 16 minutes and not allowing a fourth-quarter goal. Rushton was strong in defense, picking up seven ground balls and causing three turnovers.

The Leopards make the quick turnaround and face Big Ten-foe Rutgers on Tuesday in Piscataway, New Jersey with game time set for 3 p.m.
