BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Patriot League has announced the swimming and diving Academic All-League Team. Due to a tie in the voting, 11 student-athletes have been selected to the team. In order to be eligible for the Patriot League Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete needs to have a 3.20 or higher GPA and be a standout performer in their sport.
Haleigh Marzano of the Lafayette women swimming and diving team has been selected.
Marzano had a dominant year all season for Lafayette. In the Patriot League Championships, she finished 13th in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:20.07. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Marzano delivered another strong performance, finishing 14th in a time of 1:05.39. However, she saved her best for last, as she finished eighth in the 200 yard medley in a time of 1:46.72.
Marzano was also a consistent swimmer in the meets leading up to the Patriot League Championship as well. In the ESU Dual Meet, she finished first in three solo events. The first win was the 200 yard medley, winning the race in a time of 1:48.08. The next win was in the 400 yard medley in a time of 3:58.16. Finally, the last win of her day against ESU came in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.65.
The Lehigh Dual meet was another dominating performance for Marzano, winning three more race. The first win on the day came in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 1:04.85. This time set a new Lafayette school record in the event. The next win came in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:23.21. The final win of her day against rival Lehigh came in the 100 yard IM, as she finished in a time of 59.93. Marzano's finish in the 100 yard IM was also another new Lafayette school record.
Moving into the Colgate dual meet was another three win day for Marzano. The first win of the day was in the 200 yard medley, finishing in a time of 1:50.82. She followed that up with another win in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:15.07. Marzano's final win of the day against Colgate came in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 1:08.80.
In the opening season Loyola Dual meet, Marzano started the season off fast, with two second place finishes. The first came in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:08.85, and the other in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:31.12.
