Men’s Lacrosse Battles Loyola in 14-12 Defeat

Mathes nets four to lead the Leopards

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team opened its Patriot League schedule with a 14-12 loss to Loyola Saturday afternoon inside Fisher Stadium.

Loyola jumped out to a five-goal lead at 13-8 early in the fourth quarter before Lafayette scored four of the next five to give itself a chance in the game's final minute.

Sophomores Kalman Kraham and John Mathes each scored fourth-quarter goals to help Lafayette outscore Loyola 4-3 in the final period. Mathes led the Leopards with four goals while Kraham netted two.

Sophomore Peter Lehman had four points on a goal and an assist while senior Ryan Ness made nine saves.

Lafayette opened the scoring when junior Ryan Duncan broke the ice off a feed from sophomore Charlie Cunniffe before Loyola answered with three-unanswered goals. The Leopards were able to tie it up at 3-3 after Lehman's tally.

Loyola answered with two straight and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Leopards continue Patriot League play when Army visits College Hill next Saturday for a noon meeting in Fisher Stadium.
