Late #20 Lehigh Surge Shuts Down Men’s Lacrosse Comeback Bid

A one-goal margin separated the teams heading to the fourth

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team took a one-goal deficit into the final quarter, but ultimately fell 14-7 Saturday afternoon to No. 20/20 Lehigh inside Fisher Stadium.

Sophomore Charlie Cunniffe led the way for the Leopards with two goals while classmate Peter Lehman added a goal and an assist.

With over 30 alumni on hand, the Leopards outscored Lehigh 2-1 in a defensive third quarter to take momentum into the final frame.

After the Mountain Hawks scored just 43 seconds into the third period, the Lafayette defense settled in and freed up senior Cole Dutton who scored with 10:36 to play in the third. It was a scoreless 10 minutes before sophomore Connor Freeman found the back of the net with just 14 seconds to play in the third to make it a one-goal game.

The Leopards could not carry that momentum into the final quarter as Lehigh scored six-unanswered to finish the game.

Lehigh had 12 turnovers in the game to Lafayette's 10 and freshman goalkeeper Gabe Cummins made 12 saves in net.

Lafayette travels to Holy Cross next Saturday to continue Patriot League action before Navy comes to College Hill for Senior Day on April 16.
