WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to run away with a 21-11 victory Saturday afternoon over Holy Cross.
The win ended a drought of 1,854 days without a Patriot League win and the 21 goals is the most by a Lafayette team in the Patriot League era.
The Leopards took a 9-7 lead into the half before an hour-long weather delay halted the start of the second half.
Lafayette took full advantage of the break and outscored the Crusaders 7-1 in the third period, including six-straight tallies to close the quarter.
Sophomores
Peter Lehman and
Kalman Kraham each scored career highs with five goals apiece while both also added an assist.
Holy Cross led 4-3 late in the first quarter before sophomore
John Mathes scored with just six seconds left in the period to tie the game. That would be the last time the home team led as Lafayette rattled off five unanswered to open the second quarter.
Senior
Stephen Sajer and freshman
Liam Sargent each scored their first career goals in the win as Sargent secured a hat trick on the afternoon.
Freshman
Gabe Cummins made eight saves in goal for the Leopards while sophomore
Aidan Kelly went 20-of-30 in faceoffs.
Next up for Lafayette is Senior Day inside Fisher Stadium next Saturday as Navy comes to College Hill for a noon start.
