CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Lafayette College men's lacrosse team fell in its season finale to perennial power no. 4/4 Virginia Thursday evening by a 20-10 final at Klockner Stadium.
It was a tight first quarter when freshman goalkeeper
Gabe Cummins made six of his career-best 14 saves to help the Leopards take a 3-1 deficit into the second frame.
Sophomore
John Mathes netted the first Lafayette goal of the contest to make it 2-1 at the 1:17 mark of the first quarter before classmate
Charlie Cunniffe continued his hot streak with two second-period tallies. That Leopard duo each had a hat-trick while Cunniffe also had an assist.
The Cavaliers extended their lead to 10 midway through the third quarter before Lafayette rattled off three-unanswered, started by junior
Sean Rushton's pole goal off a Cummins save. Cunniffe and Mathes followed suit to cut the Virginia lead to seven early in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Peter Lehman netted two late goals to pick up a hat-trick while senior
Cole Dutton and junior
Brian Collins each forced a turnover and had a pair of ground balls.
