BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lafayette field hockey's senior defender
Simone Hefting earned a Patriot League weekly award, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
The Den Bosch, Netherlands native was selected as the Defender of the Week after competing in every minute of this weekend's games and anchoring the defensive squad as a center back.
Hefting netted one defensive save and held both Temple (8/26) and Bryant (8/28) to 19 total shots (seven on goal). In the victory against Bryant, the Bulldogs were only able to put two shots toward goal.
The International Affairs and Psychology major is no stranger to impressive laurels, both academic and athletic: 2021-22 Patriot League Fall Academic Honor Roll, National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) 2021 Division I National Academic Squad, Second-Team NFHCA All-Mideast Region, First-Team All-Patriot League and multiple Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards (Sept. 13, Oct. 4 and Nov. 1).
Hefting ended the previous season with two goals and five assists for nine points, alongside two defensive saves while limiting opponents to a total of 178 shots over the 18 games in regular-season play for only 9.9 shots per game.
The Leopards will travel to Wake Forest and VCU this weekend.
