EASTON, Pa - The Lafayette College football program was on display on Saturday afternoon when it wrapped up spring practice in Fisher Stadium with the playing of the Maroon-White Spring Showcase.
Rising sophomore Dean DeNobile had an impressive afternoon that included three touchdown passes to three different receivers. DeNobile found rising senior Carl Smith down the sideline for a 41-yard gain, the longest of the day. Shortly after, DeNobile hit Smith again for a nine-yard touchdown to open the scoring. DeNobile then connected with rising senior Griffin Rooney for a 19-yard touchdown pass and classmate Zack Saturn for a seven-yard score. Junior Ah-Shaun Davis also got in on the scoring action, finding a wide open Rooney for his second touchdown of the afternoon. Rising junior Reggie Thomas was aggressive in the pass rush all afternoon, recording a sack along with several hurries.
"This spring we wanted to see our kids develop physically and we have seen great strides in the weight room. We also wanted to see some of our younger players develop on the field and within our offensive and defensive systems," said head coach John Troxell. "Having all of our coaching staff back has created continuity and has helped our players become better technically and mentally. While we still have lots of work to do, every day we can see that our program is headed in the right direction."
"Today's showcase gave us a great chance to evaluate players who are fighting for playing time," Troxell continued. "We don't do a ton of live work during the spring so having the chance to watch guys tackle in space is critical for our defensive staff. I think we saw some good production from both sides of the ball. We have some experience at the QB position and we are getting better every day on the O-line. As with every year, today is about staying healthy and we did accomplish that."
