MANAHAWKIN, N.J.- Junior midfielder Lineke Spaans of the Lafayette field hockey program was named to the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Watchlist on Thursday afternoon.

The NFHCA Watchlist represents top collegiate and high school student-athletes who are early contenders for this year's NFHCA All-American teams. Only 131 student-athletes from 40 Division I institutions have been named to this year's list, which is sponsored by Victory Sport Tours. Last fall, the Bussum, Netherlands native was titled a 2022 NFHCA DI Second Team All-Mideast Region honoree as well as an All-Patriot League First Team selection.

This list is intended to showcase those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year's NFHCA All-American teams. Beginning with the 2023 fall season, to be nominated for the NFHCA Watchlist, the student-athlete must have been previously recognized for her outstanding field hockey abilities within the past two years (NFHCA All-Region, NFHCA All-American, All-Conference, All-State (high school), All-League (high school), Junior Nexus Championship selection, AAU Junior Olympic Games selection, NCAA All-Tournament Team, and/or U.S. National Team roster) and the student-athlete's head coach must be an active NFHCA member.

The NFHCA is a nonprofit organization serving field hockey coaches and supporters of the game from across the United States. The mission of the association is to champion, strengthen, and celebrate field hockey coaches and the game. The NFHCA strives to be the organization that every field hockey coach looks to for the resources to grow in the game and the inspiration to stay in the game.

The Leopards travel to Vermont and UMass on Sept. 1 and 3, respectively.
