BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Stella Malinowski,
India Ralph and
Raffi Fragomeni of the Lafayette field hockey team were honored as the Patriot League Offensive Player/Rookie, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
The Leopards went 2-0 on the home turf this weekend, defeating Bucknell 2-1 on Friday night in the Patriot League opener and Fairfield 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman forward Malinowski collected both the Offensive Player and Rookie laurels after tallying her first collegiate hat-trick versus the Stags. The awards for her six-point season-high performance are the first of her career on College Hill.
Junior defender Ralph was tasked with anchoring the Leopards' backline during the week in addition to totaling three points on one goal and one assist. Her first-quarter goal against Bucknell proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win over the Bison. The New Plymoth, New Zealand native helped hold this week's opponents to 20 total shots (14 on goal).
Sophomore goalkeeper Fragomeni made 10 saves and allowed only three goals in Lafayette's victories over the Bison and the Stags. With five saves in each contest, the Mountain Lakes, N.J. native made an additional stop against Fairfield: a penalty stroke shut-down with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to ensure the final Leopard lead.
The Maroon and White travel to American to continue league play on Sept. 23.
