Women’s Lacrosse Gears up for the 2024 Season

Four Leopards are set to lead the program as captains

EASTON, Pa. – Head coach Katie McConnell of Lafayette women's lacrosse announced on Thursday afternoon that Lindsay Geiger, Abby Romano, Clare Culligan and Kyra O'Driscoll will lead the program as captains during the 2024 spring season.

"We are thrilled to announce our 2024 captains. Abby, Clare, Kyra and Lindsay embody everything about Lafayette lacrosse. They have different leaderships qualities, but the common theme among all of them is their team first mentality," said McConnell. "Together they lead by example, have positive communication and create an energetic environment. I am confident that they will help our team take a step forward this year towards our goals and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish together!"

Geiger, a junior defender, started in all 17 games during her sophomore campaign. The Easton, Pa. native claimed 56 draw controls, picked up 28 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers.

"I am looking forward to seeing new key players arise. There have been so many of my teammates who have stepped up this season and I'm excited to see them elevate our game," Geiger said. "I think this is our year to make a statement and I plan on leading the team with high energy and determination to reach our goal of making it to the Patriot League Playoffs."

Romano totaled 20 points on 16 goals and four assists last season. The senior midfielder, hailing from Upper Montclair, N.J. earned 21 draw controls and 11 ground balls while starting for every contest. She was a 2021 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.

"This season, I'm looking forward to showcasing the hard work our team has put in during preseason. We are excited to capitalize on our potential and have a great season together on and off the field," Romano said. "This team has a lot of talent and I can't wait to see us execute it to our fullest come this spring."

Culligan started and competed in 14 games in 2023, where she scored 17 goals and made five assists for 22 points. The Madison, N.J. native picked up 12 ground balls and claimed six draw controls. The senior midfielder was also a 2021 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient.

"This group is full of potential and talent. Everyone realizes that we are capable of having a breakout year and I think this has been making us show up with extra intensity each day," Culligan said. "We are ultimately looking to build on the progress we have made in the past years and everything we do has winning in mind. We are excited to prove ourselves this season."

A senior defender, O'Driscoll rounds out the quad of captains. She came to College Hill from Long Beach, N.Y., where she started in 16 games last season. The Economics major picked up 17 ground balls and caused three turnovers.

"I am so excited to kick off what has been a highly anticipated spring campaign. We are ready to push this program forward and define how we want our season to go," O'Driscoll said. "The unwavering support from my teammates makes Lafayette Lacrosse an extremely special group to be a part of and I am beyond lucky to lead alongside such great friends and captains."

The women's lacrosse program released its 16-game spring campaign on Jan. 6, which features eight contests at home in Fisher Stadium.

In the fall academic semester, Lafayette welcomed nine freshmen to the program. Information on the first-year Leopards can be found below:
