Softball To Square off Against No. 22 Boston U.

Senior Day Slated for Sunday

Weekend Slate
Lafayette will face No. 22 Boston U. in the final home weekend series of 2024. The teams are slated for a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. All games are available on ESPN+ with the first pitch set for noon each day.

Senior Send-Off
Prior to Sunday's game, Lafayette softball will honor the members of the team's senior class: Kristen Brown, Jacqueline Cal, Bailey Langford, Bella Lowdermilk, Paige Sandidge and Kailee Sawai.

O'Neill Leading Off
On the season's opening weekend, junior Mary Grace O'Neill hit .400 out of the lead-off spot in five games. The Pleasantville, N.Y. native banged out eight hits with two doubles and a triple, scored six runs and stole five bases . O'Neill has swung the bat well the entire season and is second on the team in hitting with a .313 average and led the team in hitting for much of the season. She has started all 34 games and leads the team in hits (35), triples (3), stolen bases (22) and total bases (49).

Theft on the Rise
Mary Grace O'Neill is second in the Patriot League with 22 stolen bases (on 25 attempts) this season, trailing only Colgate's Rachel Carney (27). Versus Colgate on March 30, O'Neill stole two bases in the first game to become the school's single-season record holder. O'Neill passed Barb Matase and Linda Falcone, who had 20 stolen bases in 1984 and 1988, respectively.

Last Time Out
Lafayette dropped the series finale with Lehigh, 7-1, on April 21. Lehigh scored five runs over the middle innings to take control of the game. Rookie Katie Harrington singled home Grace Hausamann in the top of the sixth to get the Leopards on the scoreboard.

About the Leopards
Lafayette has returned eight players who started 15 or more games in 2023, including six players who started more than half of the games. The Leopards are coached by head coach Karavin Dew and assistant coach Bridget Bailey, each in their second season with the program.

Rookie of the Week
Freshman Regan Dillon was named the Patriot League Softball Rookie of the Week following the Leopards' first weekend of competition. Dillon hit for a .600 average, batting cleanup for four of the five games at the Tarleton State Whataburger Invitational, with nine hits, four doubles and two runs batted in. In her collegiate debut, Dillon went 3-for-4 against Mississippi Valley State, 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored against Buffalo and 2-for-3 with an RBI in the 3-0 win over Tarleton State. The Texas native played first base in four games while getting behind the plate in one. She has started 32 of the team's 33 games in 2024 and is third in the team in hitting.

The Opponent
The No. 22 Terriers come into the weekend riding a 15-game winning streak, last losing April 2. Boston U. is 42-4-1 overall and 12-0 in Patriot League play, tied with Lehigh atop the standings.
Grad student Caitlin Coker (.424) and seniors Lauren Keleher (.424) and Kayla Roncin (.409) are all batting above .400 and each has driven in 30-plus runs. As a team, the Terriers are hitting for a .331 clip with 113 extra-base hits.
Grad students Allison Boaz and Lizzy Avery and sophomore Kasey Ricard feature ERAs under 2.0. Ricard has pitched in 34 games with a 21-3 mark while Boaz is 15-1 in 26 games and Avery is 6-0 in 15 appearances.
