EMMITSBURG, Md. - After an hour lightning delay that stopped play in the 55
th minute, the Lafayette women's soccer match against Mount St. Mary's was officially suspended with the teams knotted in a 0-0 tie. As the contest was suspended before the completion of 70 minutes of play, none of the statistics will count towards official season numbers.
The Leopards' best scoring opportunity came in the 29
th minute, on a straight-on, rocketed shot by
Heather Plowright that took a diving save by the Mountaineers' goalkeeper, Adelaide Paredes, to keep the Leopards off the board.
Lafayette tallied 10 shots in the first half, while Mount St. Mary's had six. The game went into the halftime break at a 0-0 deadlock.
In the second half, the offensive pace had quickened, but in the 55
th minute, a lightning strike caused the game to be put into a delay. Lightning persisted in the area, and after an hour delay, the decision was made to suspend the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Catherine Apker recorded two saves, while her Mount St. Mary's counterpart had five.
The Leopards remain 1-1 on the year and will travel to Georgetown on Sunday for a match at 1 p.m.
