EASTON, Pa. – A 59-42 win over Colgate kept Lafayette football undefeated in conference play and helped junior running back Kente Edwards and junior placekicker Jack Simonetta collect Patriot League weekly football honors.
Edward was tabbed as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the fifth honor of the season for Edwards who won three in a row earlier in the campaign. Simonetta garnered Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and third in his career.
On Saturday, Edwards ran for a career-best 260 yards on 20 carries and finished the fall afternoon on College Hill with three touchdown runs. His final scoring march of 49 yards pushed him over 1,000 rushing yards for the season, the third-straight season that offensive coordinator T.J. DiMuzio has overseen a 1,000-yard rusher.
A native of Annandale, N.J., Edwards has 15 touchdowns on the year (third in the nation), just one shy of tying the school's single-season mark held by three other players. His 260-yard game vs. Colgate was the third-best single-game effort in Lafayette history, narrowly eclipsing his big day vs. Georgetown (255 yards on 9/13).
On a national level, he leads the nation in rushing yards per carry (7.82), is third in scoring (11.3), fourth in rushing yards per game (129), sixth in all-purpose yards (137.4) and eighth in total rushing yards (1,032).
Simonetta collected his weekly honor following a day on which he booted a 49-yard field goal and converted all eight of his PAT attempts. The first-half field goal was a new career long, surpassing a 40-yard boot the Economics major made against Princeton in 2023.
Simonetta has been nearly perfect on his kick attempts this season, converting 97.8% (45-of-46) of his PAT and drilling all five field goals he's taken.
The Leopards fly south for their week 11 matchup with first-year Patriot League member Richmond on Saturday at 2 p.m.
