EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette senior
Makenzie Switzer was chosen as field hockey's 2025 team captain, alongside a leadership group of
Katie Gibb,
Peyton Guinter and
Josephine van Wijk, on Friday afternoon.
Switzer returns to Rappolt for her second stint as a captain. The West Pittston, Pa. native has collected numerous accolades such as multi-year All-Patriot League First Team, All-Conference Tournament Team and All-MidEast Region First Team honors as a defender.
Gibb, a junior out of Vancouver, B.C., brings 40 games of expertise on the Leopard backline which held Patriot League opponents under nine shots per game last season. In June, she was selected to the Junior Women's Canadian National Team for a second year.
While Guinter has seen limited game action in her career due to a 2023 injury, the Biology major contributes highly in the classroom as a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad and Patriot League Honor Roll member.
Van Wijk has played in 53 games and added 33 career points for Lafayette while patrolling the midfield. Hailing from The Hague, Netherlands, she was selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team twice and added to the NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region list in 2023.
Defending Patriot League champion Lafayette opens the 2025 slate with a pair of home contests against Fairfield and Drexel on Aug. 29 and 31, respectively.
