EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
Lafayette field hockey broke its three-game losing streak Saturday with a 2-1 overtime win over Colgate at Metzgar Fields. Freshman Meredith Hahn (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) scored the game-winner with six minutes remaining in the overtime period and kept the Leopards' hopes of repeating as the Patriot League champions alive.
Lafayette (6-7, 2-2 Patriot League) put the first goal of the game on the board off the stick of junior Carolyn Rodichok (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) with 27:27 left in the first period. The Leopards held Colgate (1-12, 1-3 Patriot League) scoreless through the first half but gave up a goal by Mariah Conteras, assisted by Johanna Harvey, with 29:45 remaining in the game.
Lafayette went on the attack from the beginning of the 15-minute sudden death overtime, recording 15 shots and four penalty corners. Hahn's goal came off a scramble in front of the Red Raiders goalie Sara Corcoran, who had 12 saves in the loss, and gave Lafayette its second Patriot League win of the season.
The Leopards outshot the Red Raiders 25 to 11 and recorded 14 penalty strokes to Colgate's six in the matchup. Junior Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) had five saves in goal and senior co-captain Alison Fisher (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) recorded her third defensive save in the last two games for Lafayette.
The Leopards' take a break from Patriot League competition with a game at Cornell on Wednesday.
