EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Bob Osipower (Quakertown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), a member of Lafayette College's Class of 2000, received the prestigious ECAC/Robbins Scholar Athlete Award at a dinner held Monday night at the ECAC Fall Convention in Hyannis, Mass.

Osipower was selected from a pool of nominees submitted by the 83 Division I member institutions of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

In June, Osipower completed a successful academic and athletic career at Lafayette. The Quakertown, Pa. native earned his degree in mechanical engineering while finishing with a 3.67 GPA. His work in the classroom has not gone unnoticed in the past, however, as the two-year captain was named as the Patriot League's Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1999.

On the field in 2000, Osipower put up offensive numbers indicative of his first three years in the program, hitting .350 with three home runs and 27 RBI spread out over 36 games. His best offensive game of the season came against Bucknell on April 1, when he drove in four runs on the day, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning which helped propel Lafayette to a 6-5 win.

Osipower burst onto the scene as a freshman, batting .377 with 28 RBI to earn him a spot on Louisville Slugger's Freshman All-America team. As a sophomore, Osipower finished 10th in the nation in batting average with a .438 clip and third in the Patriot League in doubles (13). He capped that 1998 season by earning All-Patriot League First-Team honors.

In his junior season, Osipower's average dropped, but his power numbers climbed. He set a new Lafayette single-season record for home runs with 12 and moved into third all-time for RBI in a season (39). Osipower started all 40 games and ended with a .338 average and a .684 slugging percentage. A second bid to the All-Patriot League First Team was accompanied by his Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection.

He finished his career with .376 batting average, 122 RBI, 196 hits and 22 home runs.
