The Lafayette field hockey team dropped its second consecutive game and added to Fairfield's six-game winning streak with a 4-1 loss to the Stags on Saturday at University Field. The Leopards fell behind 2-0 and could not recover from the deficit, giving Fairfield its third Patriot League win of the season.
Fairfield (9-4, 3-1 Patriot League) struck first on a goal by Dani Brown with 14:40 remaining in the first half and added another score 13 minutes into the second off the stick of Elizabeth Croney. Lafayette (5-6, 1-2 Patriot League) came back to close the game to within one off an issued penalty stroke by freshman Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) with 21:58 remaining in the game.
The Stags added two insurance goals with 7:52 and 1:11 remaining in the game as they outshot the Leopards 19-7 and had 13 penalty corners to Lafayette's eight.
Leopard goalkeeper Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Fairfield's Allison Brienza each recorded three saves in the league matchup.
Lafayette continues its road trip on Oct. 10 in a non-league contest at Delaware.
