Osipower Lauded As Patriot League Scholar-Athlete

May 24, 1999

Lafayette College junior Bob Osipower (Quakertown, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) has been selected as the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete for baseball for the spring 1999 season.

Osipower is a two-time All-Patriot League selection for his steady play at third base and explosive bat as the cleanup hitter in the lineup. His performance in the classroom is equally impressive, as he holds a 3.60 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering. Osipower is also an EXCEL Scholar at Lafayette which allows him to engage in collaborative research projects with Lafayette faculty while enhancing academic skills.

The Quakertown native hit .338 for the season and was the team's top clutch offensive performer. Osipower led the team with 12 home runs, 39 RBIs, 93 total bases and a .684 slugging percentage.

The junior closed out the season on a tear, going 5-for-6 in the Leopards' finale versus La Salle. Osipower finished the day with eight RBIs which included three home runs and a bases-clearing double. His .338 average placed him ninth in the Patriot League in hitting.

Osipower is the lone Lafayette student-athlete who received a Patriot League Scholar-Athlete award during the 1998-99 academic year. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's sports information director and are placed on a ballot. Winners are selected from the ballot by the Patriot League sports information directors
