The Lafayette field hockey team lost its second straight game Wednesday in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Ivy League foe Pennsylvania. The visiting Quakers snapped their three game losing streak while earning their first win of the season.
The Leopards (3-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 7:49 left in the second period off a goal by junior Jen King (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) and managed to hold Penn scoreless through 64 minutes of play. The Quakers tied the contest with 5:21 left to play on an unassisted goal by Ali Corsi and attacked again just two minutes later with Corsi adding another goal off an assist by Nicki Battiste. Penn (1-3) sealed the victory with 1:38 remaning as Battiste scored the final goal of the game.
Lafayette outshot the Quakers 27-15 in the game but could not connect for another score.
Senior co-captain Lesley Brohawn (Newark, Del./Tatnall School) left the game early in the second period with a knee injury and did not return to the contest.
Next up for Lafayette is a 1 p.m. league matchup against Bucknell Sept. 23 at Metzgar Fields.
