EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
The Lafayette field hockey team lost its third straight game on Saturday in a league contest against Bucknell at Metzgar Fields. The Bison (4-4, 1-1) were outshot by Lafayette 32-7 but connected on a first period penalty shot and a late second half goal to take the 2-1 victory in a rematch of last season's Patriot League Championship game.
Bucknell's Amy Marvel was awarded a penalty shot with 16:01 left in the first half but Lafayette tied the game early in the second half off a goal by junior midfielder Jill Gulotta (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck). Melissa Maher scored the game-winning goal for the Bison with 12:25 remaining.
Missing from the Leopard lineup Saturday was senior defender and co-captain Lesley Brohawn (Newark, Del./Tatnall School) who is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in Wednesday's loss to Pennsylania.
Lafayette (3-4, 1-1) could not take advantage of the 16-1 penalty corner edge they held through the game, which was plagued by penalties and issued cards.
The Leopards' next game is a non-league home game against Monmouth on Sept. 27.
