Stats

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette field hockey team lost a 5-1 decision to Fairfield today on Rappolt Field. On a cold and blustery outing, the Leopards fell to 4-2 in league play as Fairfield improved to 4-2.

Fairfield opened the scoring following a penalty corner less than five minutes into the game off a goal from senior Izabella Kotowski. The Stags were helped by strong defensive play from senior co-captain Stephanie Holland who registered three defensive saves in the contest.

The Leopard defense faltered in the second half giving up four goals as the Stags racked up a 5-1 lead. Fairfield was led by Kiki Bruggink with two goals, Dani Brown with one goal and Karen Zanleoni who tallied the final Stag goal off a penalty stroke late in the second half.

Junior Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored the lone Lafayette goal on an unassisted effort in the second half.

Lafayette outshot Fairfield 16-12 and earned 11 penalty corners to Fairfields' 7 but couldn't find the back of the cage as they fell to 12-4 overall.

Fairfield improved to 8-10 overall and looks to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament on Oct. 3 and 4.

Lafayette (12-4, 4-2) will face off with league newcomer American on Tuesday in the Leopards' final regular season game. A win versus the Eagles would clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth for the Leopards.
