NEW YORK CITY (www.lafayette.edu) - Junior Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored two goals to put Lafayette past Ivy League foe Columbia in New York City tonight. The Leopards improved to 7-2 overall while the Lions fall to 3-3.
Lafayette opened the scoring as Monahan tallied her seventh goal of the season on an unassisted effort just eight minutes into the first half.
Less than three minutes into the second half, Lafayette was awarded a penalty corner that resulted in Monahan's second goal of the game. Sophomores Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) and Meredith Hahn (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) were credited with assists on the goal.
Columbia fought back to get on the scoreboard as the Lions' tina Fernandez tallied a goal later in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Leopards held on for the 2-1 win.
Columbia (3-3, 0-2) will face off with Brown on Saturday in a league match that starts at 12:00 in New York City.
Lafayette (7-2, 2-1) travels south to take on West Chester on Saturday at 12:00.
