April 10, 2001

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette College freshman Craig Alexander (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) used a banner week to earned Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week honors.

The rookie catcher hit .643 over a five-game span for the Leopards. Alexander homered in all five of those games to finish the week with nine runs batted in (RBI) in 14 official at-bats.

Alexander cranked out two 3-for-3 games vs. archrival Lehigh, helping the Leopards to a series split. Alexander's sixth-inning sacrifice fly in the opener on Monday proved to be the game-winning connection in a 13-10 win over Lehigh. In the nightcap, Alexander went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. In the four-game Lehigh series, Alexander went 8-for-11 and drove in eight runs.

For the season, Alexander is hitting .333, having connected for 12 hits in 36 at-bats with five home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI. The Fairport, N.Y. native has played in 14 games, starting 13 and is one of four freshmen who have started 10 ore more games for head coach Joe Kinney.

Lafayette returns to action on Wednesday at Columbia for a nine-inning game.
