EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette College freshman Jason Boyd (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) has been named the Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 22.

Boyd hit .588 over a five-game span for the Leopards, helping Lafayette to a Patriot League series split with reigning conference champion Army. For the week, Boyd belted out 10 hits, including the first two home runs of his career. Boyd also pounded out a triple and two doubles to post a 1.175 slugging percentage.

The freshman second baseman managed six RBI in the final three games of the Army series. He also sported a .650 on-base percentage with 20 total bases in his five games last week.

Boyd has been one of several Lafayette freshmen who have made an immediate impact in their rookie season on College Hill. Boyd has had to step into the lead-off spot following a season-ending injury to junior Tye Gonser. Boyd is hitting .352, having started 32 of 33 games in the infield, primarily at second base.

Boyd is the third Lafayette freshman to earn Patriot League Player of the Week honors in the 2001 season. Adam Rosenberg (Ocean Grove, N.J./Neptune) received the honor in the opening week of the season on March 12 and Craig Alexander (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) just two weeks ago on April 10.

Lafayette has seven games remaining in 2001. The Leopards travel to Manhattan for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
