EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Five members of the Lafayette baseball team have been selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team following a vote of conference coaches.

Heading the list is the lone senior in the group, Ian Burley (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame). Burley split time between various positions in the infield, the outfield and the designated hitter spot during the 2001 season. The Lehigh Valley native hit .289 for the season and finished tied for the team lead in home runs with seven.

Junior Tye Gonser (The Dalles, Ore./The Dalles) and sophomore Matt Tambellini (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) were the lone representatives from their respective classes. Gonser hit a team-leading .420 from the leadoff spot. His season was cut short, however, after 24 games. A pitched ball in the Lehigh series struck him in the hand and fractured a bone. The centerfielder's average continues to place him at the top of the Patriot League and among the nation's leaders. Gonser was named All-Patriot League Second Team in 1999, when he hit .340 in his rookie season.

Tambellini split time between the pitcher's mound and first base for head coach Joe Kinney in 2001. Tambellini hit .351 for the season and played in 40 of Lafayette's 42 games. He cranked out three home runs and 23 RBI. His .975 fielding percentage was the best of any of Lafayette's everyday starters.

Freshmen Adam Rosenberg (Ocean Grove, N.J./Neptune) and Craig Alexander (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) made the All-Patriot League second team at the rightfielder and catcher positions, respectively. Rosenberg hit .383 for the season and led the team in overall hits (51), doubles (11) and stolen bases (8). He was the only player on the Lafayette squad to start all 42 games. Rosenberg started off the season by earning Patriot League Player of the Week honors in the first week. He went 9-for-12 (.750) with seven RBI in the Leopards' first four games.

Alexander hit .321 while playing in 31 games in 2001. The freshman right-handed hitter led the club in home runs with seven while cranking out 23 RBI in 84 at-bats. Alexander earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors on April 10 following a week in which he hit .643 over a five-game span. Alexander homered in all five of those games to finish the week with nine RBI in 14 official at-bats.

Holy Cross second baseman Peter Summa was selected as the Patriot League's Player of the Year and Army right-hander Buck Adams was named Pitcher of the Year. Holy Cross mentor Paul Pearl was lauded as Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers.

Bucknell led the way with seven players on the All-League teams followed by Lafayette and Navy with five apiece. Army had four All-League selections followed by Holy Cross with three and Lehigh with one selection.
