Field Hockey Suffers League Setback to Holy Cross

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Holy Cross scored two goals in the final nine minutes of the game to come back from a 1-0 deficit as they beat Lafayette 2-1 today at Rappolt Field.

Lafayette suffered its first Patriot League loss as they fall to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Crusaders remain undefeated in the league as they post a 7-1 overall record.

Lafayette tallied a goal early resulting from a penalty corner less than ten minutes into the first quarter. Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) took passes from Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) and Meredith Hahn (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) to score her sixth goal of the year.

Lafayette held onto the 1-0 lead until later in the second half when the Crusader's Cathleen Kerman notched her second goal of the year off a Heather Yanusas pass.

The defending Patriot League champs Holy Cross got the eventual gamewinner off a goal from sophomore Kristina Dodier to lift the Crusaders to 2-1 over Lafayette.

The Leopards dominated the majority of the game, outshooting Holy Cross 12-8. Lafayette goalie Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Crusader's cageminder Jennifer Corsilli each made 6 stops on the day.

Holy Cross (7-1, 3-0) travels south to take on Villanova tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Lafayette (6-2, 2-1) opens a three-game non-conference stint when they face off with Columbia in New York City on Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
