COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./The George School) scored two goals and assisted on a third to guide the Lafayette field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Ursinus on Saturday in Patriot League action.
Stone opened the scoring at the 8:32 mark in the first half, converting a penalty stroke to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead going into the intemission.
Five minutes into the second half, Ursinus' Julie Lowell evened the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal.
The Leopards retook the lead when Stone took a pass from junior Beth Gulotta (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) and netted the the eventual game-winner at 26:33. Sophomore Meredith Hahn (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) added an insurance goal with 3:58 left in the game off an assist from Stone.
Senior Amy Cohen (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) registered 10 saves in goal for Lafayette which improved to 3-1. Nicole Monatesti collected 13 saves in the box for Ursinus (0-4).
Lafayette returns to action on Tuesday when the Leopards host Rider at 4 p.m.
