Three Leopards Tabbed Field Hockey Mideast Region All-Americans

Nov. 18, 2002

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette senior forward Megan Monahan (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) headlined three Leopards named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Mideast Regional All-America Team on Tuesday. Monahan and junior midfielder Jennifer Stone (Newtown, Pa./George School) were voted to the first team, and junior midfielder Melissa Hoh (Zionsville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) captured second team honors.

Monahan, a first team honoree last season and second team member in 2000, becomes the first Leopard to garner back-to-back first team honors since Ali Murphy was a three time award winner in 1996. The senior co-captain finished the 2002 season as the nation's leading point producer (80) and goal scorer (33). Monahan was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season after capturing conference Player of the Week awards on four separate occasions, and the ECAC Player of the Week award twice. She also took home All-Patriot League First Team honors for the third straight year, and the Patriot League Tournament MVP award after tying a tournament record with eight points (three goals, two assists).

Stone bettered last season's second team nod with her first team selection in 2002. The Leopards second leading scorer, Stone, finished the season with 45 points, putting her eighth in the national rankings. Named to the Patriot League first team for the second straight season, Stone was the catalyst for Lafayette's offense and her 31 career assists tie her with teammate Meredith Hahn (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) for most in conference history.

Hoh capped off a year that saw her score a career high with four goals and tally two assists with a All-Patriot League First Team nod, and now Mideast Region All-American second team award. The junior midfielder was dominant on both ends in open space and consistently disrupted opponents' penalty corners as the Leopards' flyer.

The trio helped Lafayette win a school and Patriot League record 19 games and the conference tournament title. The Leopards finished the season at 19-3 and a perfect 8-0 against Patriot League competition before bowing out to the University of California 1-0 in overtime in the CAA Play-In game.
