Leopard Baseball Rolls Over Wagner, 14-3

April 1, 2004

Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette scored 11 runs over the first three innings to claim a 14-3 win over Wagner on Thursday in non-conference baseball action at the Class of 1978 Stadium. The Lafayette offense banged out 13 hits and six different Lafayette pitchers saw time on the mound in the win.

The Lafayette bats were patient in the first inning, as Wagner starter Dan Lanzano walked three and hit one Lafayette batter. The hits batsman and one of the three walks came with the bases loaded and resulted in a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The Leopards opened the game up in the second inning. The "Adams" provided the offense, as Adam Rosenberg singled to left to drive in a run and Adam Bucci ripped a two-run single to right centerfield to give Lafayette a 5-0 lead.

Bucci was at it again as Lafayette blew the game open in the third inning with a six-run rally. He cleared the bases by cracking a three-run double to left. Jason Boyd also drove in a run in the inning and the Leopards added another on an error to take an 11-0 lead. Bucci finished the day 3-for-3 with five RBI.

The third also marked the final inning for Lafayette starter Matt Revelle. The sophomore, who was only slated to throw the first three innings, scattered four hits, struck out three and walked two in the no decision. The only real trouble the sophomore faced came in the first inning, when he pitched his way out of a two-out bases-loaded jam.

Freshman Matt Kamine replaced Revelle to start the fourth. In his fifth appearance of the season, Kamine (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits to pick up his first collegiate win after pitching the fourth and fifth innings. Wagner got to him for a pair of runs in the fifth when Chris Dick doubled home a run and Gene Ronkiewicz plated another with a single to make it 11-2.

Freshman John Fugett took over the mound duties in the sixth and allowed one run on three hits to make it 11-3.

The College Hill Nine tacked three more runs onto their lead in the bottom of the inning. Tripp Williams smoked a two-run single through the left side and Boyd doubled down the rightfield line to put the final at 14-3.

The Lafayette bullpen trio of Don Smith, Drew Moyer (2 K's) and Ted Gjeldum combined to allow just one hit over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Each threw one inning of work. Wagner's Lanzano (0-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing nine runs on five hits and seven walks over two innings.

Lafayette returns to action on Saturday when the Leopards begin a four-game series with Army. The two teams are currently in a three-way tie with Bucknell for first place in the conference standings, all holding a 3-1 Patriot League record. The first pitch on Saturday in West Point, N.Y. is slated for 12 p.m.
